Forum for the Future – Challenging the status quo, letting go of ‘win-wins’ and finding hope in the next generation

Jonathon Porritt, one of the co-founders of Forum for the Future, steps down after almost 30 years with the international sustainability non-profit.

Here, he reflects on those three decades, and why we need to start thinking very differently about the role of business in accelerating the transition to a just and sustainable world. Jonathon also shares what inspired him to take action for environmental issues right at the start, at a time when few people were talking about it.

Farms not Factories – The Great and the Good

This is a cause that really matters to me. Factory farming is something so utterly abhorrent and immoral, that it is still remarkable that there is so much of it in the world today. The level of abuse, the cruelty and sheer inhumanity is so utterly overwhelming for people, that once they know that’s going on, it is absolutely the natural thing to just avoid.

New Nuclear: What’s at Stake for Wildlife? – WEBINAR, 7th October 2021

As we fight to salvage our world from the ravages of the climate crisis, why would we choose to inflict further harm on species already struggling to survive?

This forum will explore what can be done to prevent the harm that new nuclear plants would cause. How can we halt the further unnecessary destruction of our last remaining wild spaces? And if we replace nuclear power with renewable energy, have we also adequately addressed the negative impacts of these industries on wildlife?

Join Jonathon, Juliet Davenport (Good Energy), Craig Bennett (The Wildlife Trusts) and actress Diana Quick for a round-table discussion, followed by an opportunity to put questions to the panel.

On food and farming change, Jonathon explains why addressing food waste and reducing reliance on intensively-reared, factory-farmed meat are vital in maintaining a habitable planet for future generations.
